Given the tremendous interest in the taxpaying (and non-taxpaying) public, we plan to report regularly on the stimulus package. The first batch of notices (to approximately 135M FY06 filers) should be complete this week. The second group, to Social Security and VA recipients not otherwise required to file, should be hitting mailboxes starting next week. Further, IRS anticipates sending an explanatory notice when a recipient's stimulus payment is issued. That notice will attempt to explain how IRS calculated the individual's (or family's) payment amount.
NAEA suggests that EAs consult IRS' website for answers to all stimulus questions. Among the site's interesting features is a payment calculator (complete with the wise declamation "The answer you get is only as accurate as the data you enter!"), which allows you to estimate the size of your client's stimulus payment. The site will also remind you that nontaxable combat pay (which the Department of Defense places on a Form W-2 as "Code Q" in box 12) is qualifying income for purposes of the stimulus payment.
Further, IRS this week released a stimulus payment schedule for TY07 tax returns received and processed by April 15:

And finally, NAEA has learned that in an effort to reach Americans eligible for the stimulus payment but who ordinarily are not required to file tax returns, IRS plans to open 320 of its walk-in sites on Saturday, March 29 from 9AM to 3PM for a "Super Saturday." A list of sites (some of which are IRS partners in the non-profit arena) will be posted on the stimulus website on Monday (March 24).
