NAEA Announces Academic Associate Membership
Students and Instructors Offered Discounted Price
Washington, DC (September 28, 2010) — The National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA) has announced a new level of membership that was developed for students and instructors of accredited colleges and professional schools. The new "Academic Associate" membership was created to assist full- or part-time students of tax, accounting or finance who may be interested in pursuing the "enrolled agent" (EA) license, and to make membership accessible to instructors of tax, accounting or finance career track classes. EAs are federally licensed tax professionals that may represent taxpayers before the IRS for audits, collections and appeals.
Academic Associates have immediate access to a wealth of resources available from NAEA, the professional association that represents tax practitioners who have earned the "enrolled agent" distinction. Benefits of membership include:
- E@lert, the weekly e-newsletter jam-packed with the very latest breaking news in the tax field;
- Digital issues of EA Journal, NAEA's award-winning bi-monthly magazine that explores tax topics in-depth;
- Use of the NAEA Tax Research Service, an online resource with answers to tax questions;
- Access to the NAEA Community Web Board, a national forum that allows NAEA members from across the country to exchange information and advice;
- Access to the "Members Only" portion of the NAEA website, where Member resources to help aspiring EAs can be found; and
- Networking and training opportunities and eligibility to apply for a variety of NAEA offered scholarships to prepare for the Special Enrollment Exam.
While there is no requirement that EAs hold a degree, candidates for the license must pass a stringent, three-part exam testing their tax knowledge, complete substantial continuing education and agree to abide by a Code of Ethics. To find out more about joining NAEA at the low price of $35 per year, visit the NAEA website.
